Therefore, do not try to impress him by making him think you have some money except you may it clear how much you have on you. Seeing your wallet alone can make him guess widely how much you have and he may want to increase his price just so that he won't feel he lost.

Do not be in a hurry during the act except you want to give the contractor the impression that you both should just end the negotiation because he is far from what you can afford. This can also make him reduce the price if it is within his capacity.

Just for the sake of negotiation, take a taxi to meet him. Do not make him assess you so highly because you won't like the end result. Tell him things that can make him pity you and feel like helping you complete your house.
