6 Proven Activities For Improving Motor Skills In Children

It is the desire of every parent to bring up a kid who achieves all milestones on time. Such kids fit into social groups and are easier to bring up. However, there are delays in developing some abilities. Other children need their abilities to be reinforced. Experts have recommended activities to assist parents in improving motor skills in children. Here are some of these activities.

The pincer-grasp game will help. These are activities that teach a kid hot to pick, hold and drop small objects. These are exercises and activities whose target is the use of the thumb as well as forefingers. Simple improvisation involves the use of the baby wipe container which is stuffed with scarves. An alternative is the use of games played using dials, switches and knobs.

Encourage the baby to fill and dump. This is a natural exercise that most parents will be uncomfortable with. However, it gives them an opportunity to use multiple muscles. Put all his or her toys in a bin. The kid picks them and returns them in motions that can sometimes be very annoying. However, they are learning the idea of concentration, cognitive reasoning and movements. Allow the child to squeeze sponges with water and bury or retrieve toys from the sand.

The stacking game is magical when you need better motor skills. It involves arranging blocks of different colors and sizes. The child has to identify a position, pick a block of a particular size or color and arrange it. This involves a lot of movements and learning. The blocks can interlock over time and change in size and shape.

Encourage creativity in your children. Some of the manifestations of creativity include the desire to paint using crayons. You will begin to witness this by 15 months. A child begins to scribble images on the wall. Provide crayons that can fit into the tiny hands. Finger paints and chalks are also excellent options. This form of expression improves their motor skills, beyond enhancing their confidence.

Allow your child to figure things out. This should be done as long as there is no danger or harm or damage. For instance, he or she could have started already with use of fork and spoon. Do not jump into helping. Let the kid figure out that food is falling off once it is scooped in a particular way and not the other. Once he learns on his or her own, there will be no turning back.

Teach the kids on the use of both hands in different activities. It is natural to prefer using one hand. However, the potential of a kid multiplies when he or she learns to use both hands. This is a lesson on dexterity. Activities like threading will teach on dexterity. It is also an opportunity to learn concentration and increase the number of activities that the children participate in.

Admit and appreciate that there is something unique in each child. Each child has a different milestone. There are skills that he or she will master fast while others are slow. Encourage growth and improvement where little effort is required. Allow the child to grow naturally without worry or panic about some areas that are lagging behind. Children catch up eventually.
