Popular Festival Tours To Visit In The Region

Many tourists visit Northeast India due to its festivities. They have an array of festivals in yearly. If you want to know about their rich culture especially their indigenous side going on festival tours Northeast India is the perfect way. A list of some of them are being presented down below for your guide.

Hornbill festival was named after a famous bird that the people of Nagaland admires. This is said to be the largest and grandest festivity in India. Here, 16 tribes to be exact are going to perform a dance that will show the people how they hunt in the wilderness. Rock music fans will surely love it because of the rock music concert.

Ziro festival of music are for all the music lovers out there who wants to enjoy indie type of music. Bands around the country will join forces just to perform. Exactly 30 indie bands will be coming over to take part in the event. What makes this unique is the fact that it is being held in a secluded mountain. But, the climb is worth it as a picturesque view unfolds right before your eyes.

Bihu. Bihu is a three part festival which celebrates the period of agriculture. Part one would be Bohhag, the most colorful and grandest among the three. Second is Khati where lamps are lit to guide those lost souls back in heaven. Third, Maagh, you will witness buffalo fighting, pots being break, and bonfires.

Myoko. A tribal festival which is a tradition of the Apatani Tribe. They do rituals for the prosperity of the whole tribe and so that the members will gain fertility. The village priest and shamans does the purification and sacrificing. At dawn, you could see how the rituals are performed. It starts with the collecting of pigs and ends by sacrificing the pigs on the huts of their owners.

Wangala. The celebration is done to honor Sun God of fertility who they worship the most. Drums are beaten along with the horns being blown. There are traditional dances all throughout the day. The important part is the beating of 100 nagaras together. You can join competitions and games. Tour around to exhibits to admire their handicrafts.

Dree. Dree is another festival from the Apatani Tribe. This time, it is for agriculture. Lots of sacrificial offering can be seen along with the praying to the gods which they believe protects their crops. As always, there are dances which are traditional of course, folk songs are sung by the members, and a Mr Dree contest is held where men showcase themselves.

Ambubachi mela is a type of fertility festival. This marks that their Goddess Kamakhaya is on its menstruation period. Her temple will be temporarily closed for three days time since she is menstruating. On the fourth day, it is going to be opened again for the devotees to get bits of cloth which is believed that has been soaked with her menstrual fluids.

For those who loves to dance, Nongkrem would be the best choice. It is a five day thanksgiving and during that time they are harvesting. Men and women are both dressed up in lovely attires. Now if you are an animal lover or perhaps a vegetarian, you may want to choose another as this has goat sacrificing.
