Knowing The Facts About Psychological Testing Child Custody

بواسطة : Unknown بتاريخ : 1:26 ص
By Nancy Reed

When mental health professionals are trying to gain information about a person's parenting skills, she or he is going to ask the person all kinds of questions that provide all kinds of information. Sometimes it takes interviews and exercises from multiple professionals in order for enough information to be learned. This is perfectly normal in psychological testing child custody and no cause to worry.

Asking who is the better parent is a very complex question and not one any single living person nor test can accomplish. The best tests take care of part of the job, and one of the ones that is commonly applied is MMPI-2. What this test accomplishes is it finds out if there are any mental disorders the person has and finds out how their cognitive skills are.

When you ask anyone to name a sort of test that comes to mind for most any kind of psychologic evaluation, you would probably hear the Rorschach Inkblot Test a lot. This is a very widely known one which involves black blots of ink on pages and patients are asked what they see in them. While this has been widely used for a long time, a lot of professionals now say that it is very subjective.

Tests come in all shapes and sizes, and this is a good thing because some people are better at taking some than they are at others. Some people do well with multiple choice, while others prefer true or false. In this case, that individual may like the MCMMI-3, which consists of 175 questions that are all true or false.

Some professionals will make use of the Thematic Apperception Test, also known as the TAT. It has elements to it that are similar to the Rorschach in that the person taking it will be asked to describe things that they are shown. The difference is that instead of looking at abstract blots of ink, they are viewing depictions of people in black and white.

You can get a lot of good information out of children if you know how to ask them the right way, and one of the best ways that they know how to communicate is by telling you a story or by drawing you a picture. There can be a lot of deep information revealed in those simple things, which is what the Bricklin Perceptual Scales method is all about. This information is not always considered the most reliable though.

There is always something to criticism about a particular rating system or method for finding out information about these things, and the ASPECT is no different. This is one method, however, that uses a lot of different techniques to try to be as accurate as possible. In it, one can expect to have an IQ test, the MMPI-2, draw pictures, and be interviewed.

There are many different tools that can be used to find this kind of information, and testing is only one of them. Since so many of these methods are sharply and incessantly criticized and not a single one of them hasn't had some flak given to it, professionals often turn to more reliable methods like interviews. As long as a person doesn't have a bias, it can be very elucidating to interview him or her.
